Our Monthly Highlight for May is Brad and Abby Houdashelt Serving with CRU Digital Missions, using the Internet and Technology to reach the world for Christ. Working with the Global Digital Strategies team headquarters in Orlando, Florida they are helping leaders around the world use digital tools to launch ministries in every country on Earth. Volunteer in Dayton, OH – Work continues in Dayton on “Tornado Survivors Pathways to Home Ownership” houses. Volunteers are needed throughout April and May. The preference is for volunteers to work Monday - Friday, but working partial weeks is possible too. The work is with a partner of Brethren Disaster Ministries, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Their disaster response group is called “Week of Compassion.” Contact Burt Wolf at SouthernOhioBDN@gmail.com for more details.
Volunteer at new Rebuild Site – Waverly, TN is the location of the new BDM site that opens April 24 and continues through 2022. The recovery is from flooding that occurred in August 2021. Along with rebuilding, there is still cleanup that needs to be done. Housing will be at the Presbyterian church located in the center of this small town. Work sites will be close. Hygiene Kit Assembly – Volunteers are needed on Thursday, May 12 at 6:30 PM to assemble 1,000 hygiene kits for CWS. Come to Mill Ridge Village Community Center, 1000 Mill Ridge Circle, Union. There will be a variety of work – from jobs that are done while seated to carrying and loading boxes of kits. Plan to join in this time of service and fellowship.
Sewing Bee/Prep CWS Items – A Sewing Bee/CWS Prep will be held on Sat., April 23 at 9:00 AM. Come to Eaton Community Church, 813 Camden Road. Sewers need to bring a sewing machine for making bags for Church World Service (CWS) school kits. Non-sewers will prepare items for school kits. All are invited to bring a sack lunch. Parking Fundraiser – This year there will be a change in our parking fundraiser. Rather than parking cars at the Pork Festival, we’ll park cars for The Great Darke County Fair, using the lot of an orthopedic office on Sweitzer Street. This will be August 19 – 27. It will be evenings during the week and all day on weekends. Volunteers will be needed for this event.
