Church Family Letter

Church Family,
It will soon be time for our annual church fast. For some, perhaps, many, fasting is not well understood. I cannot explain why fasting adds spiritual power to prayer, but the Bible says it does. I will speak on fasting Sunday, January 2, to better connect the Bible with our practice of fasting. In its simplest form, fasting is abstaining from food for a period of time.  Since our fast lasts 21 days, many will practice a “Daniel” fast (see details below).
Our fast helps usher in God’s plan for our ministry in 2022. I hope, in some form, hundreds will participate. Our 2022 theme is “believing God for the impossible.” At the intersection where our belief faces the impossible, Luke reminds us, “For nothing will be impossible with God” (Luke 1:37).
We fast and pray for God to bring His purpose to Castine and our lives! We seek God for spiritual breakthroughs that only He can accomplish. Because we face so many pressures, isn’t it encouraging to serve a God that knows no boundaries.
I thank those who will participate in this crucial ministry, and the spiritual power released when we join together to fast and pray for things impossible to us but not for our God! I hope we enter our church-wide fast with anticipation to experience our God doing great things.
“Anna . . . did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day.” (Luke 2:36-37)
