Messaging and Notification in the Castine Church App

Over the past few weeks we've been talking a lot about the new Castine Church App. It's an easy way to find out what's going on in our ministry: from looking at various calendars to signing up for programs and events. We've even talked about how easy it is to give in our app. Today, I want to take a look at one of the other features where our app shines, messaging and notifications.

Messaging

The Castine Church App has a really powerful messaging tool. Better yet, it's even accessible from the web. From these messaging groups, you can keep in touch with people inside various groups throughout the week. Various groups will be using these to keep in touch with ministry teams, continuing to engage in discipleship beyond Sunday morning, and just having some friendly banter. It doesn't require anyone to know your phone number or email and you can leave a group any time.

To Access Messaging:

  • Download (if you haven't already) and launch the Castine Church App. If you're going to use messaging on the web, go to castinechurch.com. Please note that messaging on the web won't give you notifications like the mobile app, so we recommend using the mobile app
  • Click on the messaging icon in the top right corner of the app or the bottom right corner of the website. The icon looks like this:
  • If you've never used messaging or giving before, click sign up, otherwise, you can use the email and password that you used for either messaging or giving previously.
    • If you're signing up for the first time, you'll need to click on the confirmation link in you email inbox for the email address you signed up with.
  • Now you can login to messaging and view all the groups that are publicly available in the Discover tab.
  • Some groups (ministry teams, ConnectGroups, discipleship groups, etc) have groups that you'll be added to by your leader and will show up on the Conversations tab.
  • Keep an eye out for groups that will be added later!

Notification Groups

Notification groups are a great way to get reminders about things that are happening in specific areas of our ministry. Schedule adjustments and cancellations are just one thing you can find with signing up for a notification group. You can also get important reminders on event registration deadlines, reminders about things like bringing in Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes, and more! We're still filling out our different messaging groups so check back often to see what has been added!

To Access Notification Groups:


  • Download (if you haven't already) and launch the Castine Church App.
  • From the home screen of the App, tap the 3 lines in the top left corner. This is the menu button.
  • Tap the settings button. On Android the settings button is the last item in the list, on Apple devices, it's in the top right of the menu that popped out.
  • Tap word Notifications to see all the groups that we have available and then turn on the topics of the notifications you want to receive.
